As a new Programs Intern at the World Affairs Council, I've already volunteered at two of the Council's programs. My very first was a luncheon with Senator Ted Cruz where I got to hear an interview with the Senator on his work, policies and priorities. My second was a book signing program with Alex Counts, founder of the Grameen Foundation. While these events were very different in style and scope, both offered a unique look into the minds of individuals who have performed influential work regarding national and international issues.
The Programs department focuses on event planning and logistics, so we tend to be pretty busy! Recently, we've been preparing for an upcoming program with retired Marine General Jim Mattis, the 26th Secretary of Defense. My first big assignment was to compile a briefing book for our CEO, Jim Falk, to use before the conversation. While it took a lot of work, I had a lot of fun researching for this assignment and hope I am assigned a new one soon.
Three weeks into my internship, I have a distinct sense that I've only scratched the surface of what the World Affairs Council has to offer, and I eagerly look forward to the weeks to come!
