As a “non-traditional” intern working in all departments, I am enjoying getting a crash course in all the work that the staff here does to keep our community informed and engaged.
Although I had been a member for a few years prior to this internship, I am now building better relationships with other members and learning about all that they do for our community as well. Thus far, I have been able to assist at events with impressive speakers and authors, in particular our massive (and impressive) event with General Mattis, and I am very much looking forward to an exciting schedule of events ahead this fall.
Most importantly, for me the best part of interning here is being around other people who are all as interested and engaged with national and international affairs as I am. Outside of academia this is not often easy to find. While I finish my degree in international studies and human rights at Southern Methodist University, I know that the skills and relationships that I am building during my internship will always be assets in my next career.
