I am excited to be interning for the Programs Department of the World Affairs Council of Dallas/ Fort Worth this semester! As a former member of the Junior World Affairs Council, I have always been grateful for the work that the Council does. It is a great privilege to be able to now contribute to the Council’s mission engaging with North Texas on global affairs.
As a Programs intern, I write introductory remarks for each speaker that has an event with the Council. I also compile briefs on speakers, events, or books for the Council’s CEO & President Jim Falk and outline itineraries for upcoming speakers. I also assist with the day-of staging of events, and check-in attendees.
The events are my favorite part of my internship so far! I attend as many as I possibly can because each event really is a unique opportunity to learn about a topic I might not otherwise know about. Just last week, I attended an event with Ms. Tracy Walder, focusing on her career in the CIA, the FBI, and then as a history teacher, a Junior World Affairs Council event with Ambassador Al Otaiba, the Ambassador from the United Arab Emirates to the United States, and another Meridian: Young Professionals event with Dr. Gregory Brew sharing his expertise on Iran.
This semester, I will be completing my Associate of Arts of Peace Studies and Human Rights from Richland College and I will be pursuing a bachelor’s in International Relations in the fall. Interning with the World Affairs Council has given me a broader look into the range of opportunities in international relations. I look forward to applying everything that I am learning through my internship to the rest of my undergraduate studies and to a future career in this exciting field.
