My name is Morgan and I am currently a Programs Intern here at the Council! I am a rising senior at The University of Texas at Austin studying International Relations and Global Studies, and I have concentrations and certificates in Latin American Studies as well as Security Studies. When I am on campus, I serve as a Student Ambassador to the university and I have recently been accepted as an Undergraduate Fellow to the Clements Center of National Security!
Since joining the Council, I have been involved in research projects and composing briefs for our CEO, Jim Falk. Even though our events have been virtual for the summer, the programs department is just as busy. The increasing accessibility of the webinars as well as the flexibility of the speakers and educators is inspiring, and I am thrilled to be a part of it! In addition to research and writing, I have learned how to use the database Raiser’s Edge, been involved in weekly meetings, and gotten to speak privately with speakers and council board members alike. My favorite research project and webinar to date was preparing to hear from Barton Gellman, the reporter who helped coordinate the release of information from Edward Snowden! He spoke primarily on speaking truth to power and how the release of information was coordinated, all of which differed greatly from what the media portrayed several years ago (I highly recommend reading his book or listening to the interview).
Following the conclusion of my internship, I aim to complete my degree and pursue a career in intelligence and national security. I was previously accepted to study for the summer at the Department of War Studies at King’s College London, and I hope to pursue that opportunity once again after the threat of COVID-19 passes and before I begin working!
Applications for fall Council internships are due this Friday! See all application requirements here: https://www.dfwworld.org/who-we-are/global-young-leaders/internships
