The Israeli-Palestinian Conflict, Feb. 19 at 4:15 PM

Updated: Feb 26, 2020

JWAC Lake Highlands HS event:

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has been one of the most contentious foreign policy issues of the last 70 years. In this discussion, we will explore the historical roots of the conflict dating from the fall of the Ottoman Empire and the post-WWII period to the present day.

Religion does play a part in the tensions between Israelis and Palestinians, but the conflict is a much more complex struggle to secure distinct homelands for both the Jews and the Palestinians. The key issues are: mutual recognition, borders, security, control of Jerusalem, Israeli settlements, and Palestinian right of return. The violence of the conflict, in a region rich in sites of historic, cultural and religious interest worldwide, has been the object of numerous international conferences dealing with historic rights, security issues and human rights.
