The Robert W. Mong, Jr. Journalism Scholarship presented by The Dallas Morning News


The Robert W. Mong, Jr. Journalism Scholarship presented by The Dallas Morning News was created in 2010 to award scholarships to deserving high school seniors interested in pursuing a career in journalism and/or public relations/communications. This is a one-time, non-renewable award/scholarship. Funds awarded must be used to cover college tuition or fees. If the Scholarship Review Committee determines that no applicants meet the eligibility requirements or qualifications to receive the award, then the committee may elect to not award any scholarships for that given year.


One to three scholarships ranging between $1,000 - $5,000

Funds may be used for:

· Applicants must:

· Be a U.S. Citizen or legal, permanent resident with a permanent resident card

· Be a graduating senior of a North Texas High school and meet the geographic residency requirements as outlined below

· Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale

· Show a demonstrated aptitude for journalism and/or writing

· Interested in pursuing a four-year degree in journalism and/or public relations/communications

· Exhibit community service leadership

Geographic limitations:

Residents of Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Kaufman, Rockwall or Tarrant County

Follow this link: (You can also find the link easily on our website at then click on “Scholarships” then “Scholarship Listing” then “Robert W. Mong, Jr. Scholarship”). Create an account: The Dallas Foundation has a new portal and even if you have applied in the past, you will need to create a new account by clicking “Register,” then selecting “Scholarship Applicant” under Portal Access. Once you complete and submit all of the required information, the system will automatically send you an email confirming your registration. Log in to the portal: Using the username and password you selected, navigate to Scholarship Applicant > Find Scholarships. Locate the Robert W. Mong, Jr. Scholarship and click the red text. Please also note applicants can work on the application at their leisure, save it, and come back to it at a later date.

All applications must be submitted no later than April 30, 2020 at midnight CST, as the online application process will close at that time. Winners will be notified by June 1, 2020.
